Recent Updates Report 1/28

Since the idea of GunplaFinder is to help people find kits in their area, it might be handy to know what stores have been added to the site and potentially any new features.

A few weeks ago, I had traveled down to Southern California to participate in Spruefest, but I was also there to visit stores that word had it, had the treasures we’re all hunting. Here’s a list of what was added from that trip:

Brookhurst Hobbies
ROBOT4LESS
Hobbyholics
Burbank’s House of Hobbies
Tokyo Japanese Lifestyle (Westminster Mall)
Small Wonders
Scale Model Stuff
Marty’s Hobbies

I’ve also added a panorama feature that allows 360 degree photos so that you’ll be able to take a peak around before checking out a store.

If you’re interested in adding your local store to GunplaFinder, please e-mail me at admin@gunplafinder.com for details!

Spruefest 2019

The theme for Spruefest 2019

Spruefest is a modeling competition that takes place at Southern California store Brookhurst Hobbies. The event has been going since 2017 and the number of entries and split categories seems to be growing. While there’s only a small segment that’s dedicated to the Gundam/mech genres, the work that was presented begs to be seen, regardless of the category.

There were over 500 entries with over 100 participants this year and the room nearly couldn’t contain everything! Click the panoramas to see the impressive entries.

Bluefin sponsored the Gundam category and also had a booth setup showing off some of the latest products available including an interesting Haro which features clear or solid pieces and retractable limbs.

If you’ve never been and are shy about entering, you should still go to an event such as this because the art on display is jaw dropping! It’s also fun to talk to others and learn new techniques that will add to your own toolbox of skills.

I was a little more than shocked at 3rd Place

This was my first modeling kit competition and I honestly was pushing myself to participate to simply achieve the task. So imagine my shock when they announced my name and the piece placed 3rd in the diorama category! I can’t thank the Capufe Community enough for all the encouragement they provided in the two week scramble leading up to Spruefest!
